Fed: Govt's change to asylum seeker policy a failure - Opp'n

The federal opposition says the government's policy to suspend the processing of all
new immigration claims from Sri Lankan and Afghan asylum seekers is already a failure.

Opposition spokesman for Immigration and Citizenship SCOTT MORRISON says the rushed
decision has done nothing to stop new boat arrivals .. with four new vessels arriving
since Friday.

The fresh criticism comes after two asylum seeker boats en-route to Australia were
intercepted yesterday .. just days after the government's policy change .. while two others
were stopped on Friday and Saturday.

Mr MORRISON says the government's decision has not only led to wide-spread criticism
.. but left it open to potential legal challenges.
