UUNET global IP backbone extends to Kingston TLI's UK teleport; Companies no longer have to go to the States to get backbone connectivity, says Kingston TLI.

M2 PRESSWIRE-23 May 2000-KINGSTON TLI: UUNET global IP backbone extends to Kingston TLI's UK teleport; Companies no longer have to go to the States to get backbone connectivity, says Kingston TLI (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

RDATE:22052000

The UK teleport of Kingston TLI -- the satellite arm of the Kingston Communications Group - is being 'hardwired' to the global backbone of UUNET, one of the world's leading Internet services communications companies.

As a result, companies worldwide can now be connected directly to UUNET's OC-48 US and STM-16 European backbones through its network extension, making Kingston TLI's Internet backbone connectivity in the UK equivalent to a direct US connection, according to Kris Miller, business development manager for Kingston TLI.

"Customers will now be able to connect directly to the UNNET core backbone in a single satellite hop," he said. "This means they will be able to take full advantage of Kingston TLI's packaged end-to-end IP solutions as well as its voice and data satellite services."

One of the UK's leading satellite service specialists providing global coverage, Kingston TLI has access to multiple satellites - including New Skies, Eutelsat and Intelsat - with major gateway earth stations. In fact, it has just tripled its earth station capacity for its IOR coverage of Asia, Africa and the Middle East to enable it to service the exploding demand for its IP connectivity solutions.

As Kris Miller points out, the extension of UUNET's global backbone will have two distinct advantages.

"Firstly, it will dramatically reduce the lead time for starting new IP circuits," he said. "Secondly, it will provide greater flexibility in response to customer requests for upgrades and IP bandwidth growth."
