Fed: NT poll no sign of tide turning against Labor, Smith says

A senior federal minister has cautioned against reading too much into the Northern
Territory election result .. but warns that next month's West Australian poll will also
be tough for Labor.

The NT Labor government is clinging to power after suffering a massive swing against
it in yesterday's election.

It could take days before the final results are known but commentators are predicting
that Labor will return to government with a one-seat majority.

Foreign Minister STEPHEN SMITH says Labor's always struggled in the NT and has predicted
another close result in next month's WA election.

But he's told the Nine Network .. it doesn't mean that the tide's turning against Labor.
